CAEP 2018 Competition Dates

There are three categories of abstracts with separate submission processes and review criteria: research, education innovation (EI), and quality improvement & patient safety (QIPS). Click on the appropriate tab below to review the submission criteria for each.

  • The CAEP 2018 conference takes place May 26-30, 2018 in Calgary, AB. Successful abstract presenters are responsible for their own expenses and conference registration.
  • Only CAEP members will be considered for abstract awards. To view the list of awards and criteria, click here.

The following details are required to complete a research abstract submission:

Presenters and Authors: The presenting author should appear first in the list, followed by the remaining authors in order of contribution.

Title: Enter your title in sentence case (i.e. only the first word is capitalized, unless using proper nouns). Do not use abbreviations or quotation marks.

Examples:

  • INCORRECT: “A Comprehensive Study to Reduce Falls in the ED.”
  • CORRECT: A comprehensive study to reduce falls in the emergency department

Abstract 

  • Do not include title, authors, affiliations, or keywords.
  • There is a 2,500-character limit, which is approximately 300 words with spaces.
  • The following sections are included in the structured abstract:
    • Introduction
    • Method
    • Results
    • Conclusion
    • Keywords

Keywords: Include up to 3 keywords. Avoid abbreviations and capitalization.

Awards: CAEP members may be eligible for the various research abstract awards.

Abstract Type: Select “Education Innovation” from the menu.

Presenters and Authors: The presenting author should appear first in the list, followed by the remaining authors in order of contribution.

Title: Enter your title in sentence case (i.e. only the first word is capitalized, unless using proper nouns). Do not use abbreviations or quotation marks.

Examples:

  • INCORRECT:  “EI: A New Curriculum for Medical Students.”
  • CORRECT: Education innovation: a new curriculum for medical students

Abstract 

  • Do not include title, authors, affiliations, or keywords.
  • There is a 2,500-character limit, which is approximately 300 words with spaces.
  • The following sections are included in the structured education innovation abstract:
    • Introduction/innovation concept
    • Method
    • Curriculum, tool, or material
    • Conclusion
    • Keywords

Keywords: Include “innovations in EM education” as your first keyword in order to ensure that the abstract is directed to the correct track and easily identified in the abstract supplement. Two additional keywords can be used.

Award: NEW THIS YEAR The top 3 abstracts submitted by CAEP members will present in an education track at CAEP 2018 (Sunday, May 27 in Calgary). The audience will then determine the winner of the Top Education Innovation Abstract Award. You must select ‘yes’  on your application if you would like to be considered for this competition and award. The winner will receive the $250 award but no other compensation will be provided to the presenters.

Abstract Type: Select “Quality Improvement & Patient Safety” from the menu.

Presenters and Authors: The presenting author should appear first in the list, followed by the remaining authors in order of contribution.

Title: Enter your title in sentence case (i.e. only the first word is capitalized, unless using proper nouns). Do not use abbreviations or quotation marks.

Examples:

  • INCORRECT:  “A Comprehensive QI Project to Reduce Falls in the ED.”
  • CORRECT: A comprehensive quality improvement project to reduce falls in the emergency department

Abstract

    • Background & aim statement
    • Measures & design
    • Evaluation/results
    • Discussion/impact
    • Keywords

Keywords: Include “quality improvement and patient safety” as your first keyword in order to ensure that the abstract is directed to the correct track and easily identified in the abstract supplement. Two additional keywords can be used.

Award: CAEP members may be eligible to win the Top QIPS Abstract Award.
